Rongai Route – 6 Days
The Rongai Route is the only Kilimanjaro trekking route that approaches the mountain from the northern side, near the Kenya border. Known for its remote and quiet trails, it offers a more peaceful and less crowded climbing experience compared to the southern routes.
This route is particularly suitable for trekkers seeking a gradual and steady ascent, with relatively dry conditions throughout most of the year. The landscape is unique, starting from cultivated farmland and pine forests before transitioning into heath, moorland, and alpine desert zones. Wildlife sightings such as colobus monkeys and antelopes are also more common in the early stages of the trek.
Although the Rongai Route is slightly less scenic in the initial days compared to other routes, it compensates with its sense of wilderness, excellent summit success rates, and a beautiful descent via the Marangu Route. The 6-day itinerary is designed for fit trekkers looking for a quieter but rewarding path to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.
Rongai is ideal for those who prefer solitude, drier conditions, and a more gradual Kilimanjaro climbing experience.
