Lemosho route
The Lemosho Route is often considered the most beautiful of all the trekking trails up Mount Kilimanjaro. It crosses the entire Shira Plateau from west to east with incredible scenery. On this route you can enjoy the beautifully scenery of two peaks (Shira peak and Kibo peak) which are both relatively flat hikes. Crowds are comparatively low until the route joins the Machame route near the Lava Tower at acclimatization point.
The Lemosho route on Kilimanjaro is one of the newer routes on the mountain and shares a portion of the same path with the Machame route and Umbwe route. Lemosho holds a few advantages over other routes that definitely make it worth considering, particularly for travelers who have some extra time.
Starting at the western flanks of Mount Kilimanjaro at the Lemosho Gate, the Lemosho Route wanders its way up one of the more remote sections of the mountain and has a higher success rate than other route options.
The trail takes hikers through a beautiful rainforest where they might have the chance to spot wildlife along the way. Black and white Colobus monkeys are routinely seen in the forests, as are Blue monkeys, and above 2700m you can spot lizards and a wide assortment of birds.
More details
Eventually the Lemosho route merges with the Machame route and the foot traffic begins to increase. If you’re looking for a route that is quieter and less crowded for all the days on your trip, the Lemosho Northern Circuit may be another option.
Because of its remote nature and lengthier route, the Lemosho route takes a few extra days to trek, and with that the success rate increases fairly dramatically. On the Northern Circuit you also have the option of seven days, eight days or nine days.
