Day 01 :

Umbwe Gate – Umbwe Cave Camp

Elevation: Approximately 1,600 m to 2,850 m
Distance: Approximately 11 km
Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
Habitat: Rainforest

After breakfast and a briefing with your mountain guide, you will travel to Umbwe Gate for registration and final preparations before beginning your Kilimanjaro adventure.

The first day's trek takes you through dense rainforest along a steep and increasingly narrow trail. The Umbwe Route begins its reputation for a challenging ascent from the very first day, with the path climbing steadily through the forest.

As you continue upward, enjoy the rich vegetation and peaceful atmosphere of Kilimanjaro's southern slopes. You will arrive at Umbwe Cave Camp, where you can rest, enjoy dinner and prepare for the next stage of your climb.

Day 02 :

Umbwe Cave Camp – Barranco Camp

Elevation: Approximately 2,850 m to 3,960 m
Distance: Approximately 6 km

Today's trek continues along the steep Umbwe Route as the dense rainforest gradually gives way to more open landscapes. The terrain becomes increasingly dramatic as you gain altitude and approach the Barranco area.

The route eventually joins the southern circuit near Barranco Camp, one of the most scenic camps on Mount Kilimanjaro. From here, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Barranco Valley and the surrounding volcanic landscapes.

Take time to rest, hydrate and allow your body to adjust to the higher altitude.

Day 03 :

Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

After breakfast, begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, an exciting and memorable section of the Kilimanjaro trek. Although it may look intimidating, the climb is manageable with the guidance and support of your mountain team.

After reaching the top, continue through beautiful high-altitude landscapes before descending slightly toward the Karanga Valley. Following a short break, continue your ascent toward Barafu Camp, the final camp before your summit attempt.

Upon arrival, enjoy an early dinner, prepare your gear and rest for a few hours before beginning the summit climb around midnight.

Day 04 :

Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

Elevation: 4,673 m to 5,895 m to 3,100 m
Distance: Approximately 17 km
Hiking Time: 11–14 hours
Habitat: Arctic Zone to Rainforest

Your summit attempt begins shortly after midnight. Moving slowly through the darkness, you will begin the most challenging section of the entire climb as you make your way toward the crater rim.

The trail is steep and demanding, but your guides will support and encourage you as you continue toward Stella Point. From there, the final stretch follows the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa.

Reaching the summit is an incredible moment and the reward for your determination and hard work. After taking photos and celebrating your achievement, begin your descent toward Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp.

The lower altitude and lush surroundings offer a welcome change after the extreme conditions of the summit zone.

Day 05 :

Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate

Elevation: Approximately 3,100 m to 1,640 m
Distance: Approximately 10 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest

After breakfast, begin your final descent through Kilimanjaro's beautiful rainforest toward Mweka Gate.

The trail can be wet and slippery in places, but the changing scenery and fresh mountain air make for a memorable final walk. Upon reaching the gate, successful climbers will receive their Kilimanjaro certificates and celebrate the completion of an extraordinary adventure.

You will then be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, where you can relax and reflect on your journey to the Roof of Africa.
