3 Days Mount Meru Climbing

After breakfast and a briefing with your mountain guide, you will travel to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park for registration and final preparations before beginning your Mount Meru adventure.

Unlike many mountain treks, the journey begins within a national park, where wildlife may be encountered along the way. An armed park ranger accompanies trekkers as they make their way through the lower slopes of the mountain.

The trail passes through open grassland and beautiful forest, offering opportunities to enjoy the natural landscapes and possibly spot animals such as giraffes, buffaloes and monkeys.

Continue gradually uphill until you reach Miriakamba Hut, where you will enjoy dinner and spend your first night on the mountain.

Distance: Approximately 8 km
Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
Habitat: Montane Forest to Moorland
After breakfast, continue your ascent toward Saddle Hut. The trail becomes steeper as you climb through beautiful montane forest and higher mountain vegetation.
As you gain altitude, the trees gradually give way to open moorland and more dramatic landscapes. Along the way, enjoy increasingly impressive views of the surrounding valleys and the volcanic features of Mount Meru.
Upon arriving at Saddle Hut, located between Mount Meru's main peak and Little Meru, you will have time to rest and prepare for the summit attempt later in the night.
An optional acclimatization hike toward Little Meru may be arranged, depending on your group's schedule and conditions.

Hiking Time: 10–14 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert to Grassland

Your summit attempt begins in the early hours of the morning, usually around midnight. Moving slowly through the darkness, you will begin the most challenging stage of your Mount Meru adventure.

The route follows the dramatic crater rim, with steep sections and spectacular views of the volcanic landscape below. As dawn approaches, you will continue toward Socialist Peak (4,566 m), the summit of Mount Meru.

Reaching the summit at sunrise is an unforgettable moment. On a clear day, enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru's volcanic crater and the landscapes of northern Tanzania.

After celebrating your achievement, begin the long descent back toward Saddle Hut for a short rest before continuing down to Momella Gate, where your Mount Meru adventure comes to an end.

You will then be transferred back to your hotel in Arusha for a well-deserved rest.
